IVF – Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)

IVF - Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)

This is the process in which the processed semen sample with the motile sperms will be injected into uterine cavity through the cervix during the ovulation time.

Who does IVF (Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) )help?

When no medication and timed intercourse is successful, then the IUI is followed. People with less sperm counts can go for this or even patients with motile sperms can try this. If the woman has any problem in regularity of ovulation, then the IUI can be done as it stimulates the ovulation. Also some couples may not have an apparent reason for their infertility and they were usually advised with this

Requirements before IUI (IVF PROCEDURE)

  • Ovulation confirmation (with or without medication)
  • Patent tubes
  • Mildly reduced sperm counts

Precautions for IUI (IVF PROCEDURE)

Since this is a relatively simple and safe procedure, it does not require any special precautions. Only a few minutes rest after the procedure and then you can resume your routine.

Possible Complications

Apart from the mild pain and spotting on the day of an IUI, there are no major complications at all. Around five to ten percent of the patients have multiple [generally twin] pregnancies. Sometimes, a patient may respond excessively to medications and produce more eggs, putting her at risk for multiple pregnancies and a condition called Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS). If there is a risk of this occurring, your doctor will advise you accordingly and the cycle may be cancelled or converted to an IVF cycle. Infection is a very rare complication.
